Articulated sex doll fingers can be repaired by rebuilding the internal mounting plate, fitting the jointed fingers, and testing the assembly before the hand is closed. This advanced repair is for dolls with separate mechanical fingers, not hands built around simple wire fingers.
This guide follows Stephan Kleemann's 14-step sequence for a hand plate with replaceable fingers. It assumes the hand is open and the old filler or damaged material has been removed. If you are not comfortable working near TPE with heat, metal, and adhesive, ask an experienced repairer to take over.
Check which finger system you have
Look inside the hand before buying parts or applying adhesive. An articulated system has separate fingers with visible joints and an internal plate. Each finger attaches to that structure. A standard wire hand normally has continuous wire running into the fingers and no removable finger modules.

The process covers the mounting structure, hand plate, finger fit, movement checks, and mechanical installation. It does not explain how to open the hand, replace missing TPE, repair a broken wrist skeleton, or perform the final cosmetic closure.
Do not copy measurements from these photos. Use the original parts, opened hand, and an undamaged matching hand as references.

Read this safety note before starting
Keep the doll material well away from the soldering area. Let every metal part cool fully before bringing it back to the hand. Soldered areas must be cleaned thoroughly because residual flux may contain acids that can damage TPE.
Cover exposed copper with a plastic barrier before it touches the doll material. Stephan used Kontakt 70 and noted that some TPE formulas may be incompatible with copper. Treat this as a precaution, not a universal guarantee. Check the current product instructions and test any adhesive or coating on a hidden area first.
Stop if the design is unclear, the wrist skeleton is loose, or the surrounding material is badly torn. Correct problems while the hand is open.
Phase 1: Build the mounting structure
Step 1: Make the mounting plate
Make the small plate that receives the finger assembly. Match its outline and hole arrangement to the original hand rather than using a size from another repair. It creates a stable, serviceable base.
Check before moving on: The plate should sit flat, with smooth edges and no corner pointing toward a thin area of skin. If it rocks or creates a pressure point, reshape it now.
Step 2: Solder the nuts to the plate
Place the matching nuts over their attachment points and solder them to the plate. This keeps the later fasteners aligned and prevents the mounting points from turning.
Let the metal cool, then inspect each joint and apply only light hand pressure. Clean away all flux residue. Do not bring a warm plate back to the doll, and do not continue with a joint that moves or shows an incomplete bond.
Step 3: Bond the mounting plate
Fit the mounting plate into its prepared support and bond it with a suitable product. It should become part of the support rather than rest against it.
Before the adhesive sets, confirm that the plate is flat and the threaded attachment points remain accessible. Keep adhesive out of the threads and away from areas that must move.
Step 4: Make the hand plate
Prepare the larger plate that carries the finger layout. Shape it against the opened hand, original components, and an undamaged matching hand when available. Smooth the perimeter.
Check before moving on: The plate should fit inside the hand without forcing the surrounding material outward. Do not add a hole, fastener, or connection that is not present in the original system.
Phase 2: Adjust and test fit
Step 5: Customize the fit
Refine the outline and attachment positions until the hand plate follows the available space. Work in small increments. A minor change can alter finger spacing or move a hard edge closer to the skin.
The plate needs stable support and room for the surrounding skin and soft material. Stop removing material once it sits naturally.
Step 6: Test the assembly
Assemble the plate and fingers without sealing the hand. This dry fit exposes alignment and clearance problems while the parts remain accessible. Tighten only enough for inspection.
Confirm that each finger attaches cleanly and moves without touching a fastener. Correct interference before applying adhesive or trimming.
Step 7: Check the position
Place the test assembly inside the hand and inspect the palm, back, and fingertips. The finger bases should follow the hand's natural spread.
Compare the joints with the knuckle areas. If a finger sits high, low, or twisted, adjust its attachment. Cutting will not fix a misplaced base.
Step 8: Compare the other hand
An undamaged hand can help you judge spacing, length, and the relaxed pose if it uses the same system. Aim for a natural counterpart, not forced symmetry.
If the other hand has a different plate, finger type, or internal geometry, do not use it as a mechanical template. Return to the repaired hand's original parts and available mounting points.
Phase 3: Trim and test the fingers
Step 9: Cut the fingers to length
Mark each finger separately while the assembly is positioned. Trim in small increments because the skin pockets and finger lengths differ. The internal finger must support the pose without pressing hard into the tip.
Recheck every mark. A long finger can damage the tip; a short one may leave poor support. Alignment cannot restore lost length.
Step 10: Articulation demonstration, part 1
With the assembly exposed, move the fingers into a gentle extended position and watch the joint sections. This is a functional check, not a test of maximum extension.
Each section should travel in the intended direction without catching on a fastener or neighboring finger. If a joint binds, return to the fit and alignment checks. Never force it past the resistance.
Step 11: Articulation demonstration, part 2
Bring the fingers into a relaxed, flexed pose. The three joint areas should share the bend rather than folding sharply at one point.
Stop if a joint twists, loosens, or brings metal against an unprotected surface. The source of that problem needs to be corrected before installation.
Step 12: Check the range of motion
Move one finger at a time through a practical posing range. Look for smooth motion, adequate clearance, and a stable connection. The joints need not reproduce human-hand motion.
Return all fingers to neutral, then recheck the fasteners. Correct looseness without overtightening or placing extra stress on the joint mechanism.
Phase 4: Install and inspect
Step 13: Install the assembly
Install the assembly in the prepared hand, keeping the order and orientation from the dry fit. Before covering it, confirm that the flux residue is gone, the metal is cool, and exposed copper is protected.
Any adhesive or coating should be used and cured according to its instructions. The assembly should sit securely without pushing the hand material outward or placing a hard edge beneath a thin area.
Step 14: Finish and inspect the hand
Set the fingers in a relaxed pose and inspect every side. Look for uneven spacing, a bulge, a hard edge, or a fingertip pushed from inside. Move each finger gently once more.
When the hand holds a natural pose, stays fixed, and has no pressure points, it is ready for closing and cosmetic work. Correct any failed check first.
Test the repair before closing the hand
While the assembly is accessible, hold the plate and apply light pressure to each finger base. Nothing should shift, click, or lift. Pose one finger at a time, then return it to neutral.
These fingers are for posing, not load bearing. Do not use them to grip heavy objects, pull the doll, or support body weight. During the first few sessions, check for a new hard spot, bulge, or loss of movement.
Troubleshooting and when to stop
If a finger sits crooked, revisit the plate position and finger orientation before shortening it. If a joint binds, check its clearance and alignment instead of applying more force. If a fastener loosens during repeated movement, disassemble it and find the cause while the hand is open. Do not bury a loose connection under filler.
Seek professional help if the wrist skeleton is broken, mounting points are missing, the TPE is extensively torn, or the internal design does not match your parts. Stop when product compatibility cannot be confirmed. Heat, an unknown chemical reaction, or a misplaced plate can enlarge the damage.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as repairing a wire finger?
No. This guide is for a hand plate with separate articulated fingers. A wire-finger hand has a different internal structure and needs a different repair method.
Can one articulated finger be replaced later?
That is a key benefit of a serviceable plate system, as long as the assembly was designed for individual replacement and remains accessible. Confirm the actual construction before ordering a replacement finger.
What adhesive should I use on TPE?
Use only a product whose manufacturer confirms suitability for the exact material and purpose. TPE formulas vary, so a product used successfully on one doll is not automatically safe for another.
Why should exposed copper be covered?
The original repairer was concerned that some TPE formulations might react badly with copper. A suitable plastic barrier limits direct contact. This is a sensible precaution, not proof that every TPE and copper combination will react.
How far should the articulated fingers bend?
Only through the smooth, practical range allowed by that joint system. Do not force a stiff joint or try to match the movement of a human hand.
Can I close the hand as soon as the parts are installed?
Wait until the mechanical checks are complete and every adhesive or coating has cured according to its instructions. The assembly should be clean, cool, stable, and free of pressure points before the hand is closed.
